Special CME Requirements:

  • Opioids and Pain Management:   3 credit hours of Category 1 (AMA PRA Category 1, AOA Category 1-A, AOA Category 1-B, and AAFP Prescribed Credit) shall be completed every 2 years.

Profession: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

Licensure Cycle: Every Two Years

Special CME Requirements:

  • At least 40 of the 100 hours of continuing medical education obtained must be osteopathic medical education.
  • Opioids and Pain Management:   3 credit hours of Category 1 (AMA PRA Category 1, AOA Category 1-A, AOA Category 1-B, and AAFP Prescribed Credit) shall be completed every 2 years.

CME Requirements for MDs

“MD: A minimum of 40 hours in Category 1. Physicians must complete 3 hours of Category 1 credit CME every two years on the prescribing of opioid medication as required by Board Rule Chapter 21, “Use of Controlled Substances for Treatment of Pain.” 

CME Requirements for DOs

“Board. As part of the renewal application, each physician licensed by the Board of Osteopathic Licensure pursuant to Title 32, chapter 36, must append satisfactory evidence or complete a form prescribed by the board certifying that the physician has obtained 100 hours of continuing medical education during the two years preceding the renewal of the physician's license. At least 40 of the 100 hours of continuing medical education obtained must be osteopathic medical education, as defined by the Board in Section 1, subsection 6. “
