  • Bioterrorism:   4 hours within 2 years of initial licensure.
  •  Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT): 2 hours  must be completed by all licensees one time, by your 2025 renewal.

Credit Type: 10 credit hours of AMA or AOA Category 1 CME are required every year.

  • Suicide Prevention: 2 credit hours every 4 years - or initially within two years of your first licensure.
  • Opioids or Addiction: 2 credit hours in even years only.

One-time CME Requirement

“The following continuing medical education (CME) courses must be completed within 2 years of your initial licensure, and need only be completed one time:  4 hours: Bioterrorism, relating to the medical consequences of an act of terrorism that involves the use of a weapon of mass destruction .”

Controlled Substance CME Requirement

“The following CME must be completed once every 2 years if the category applies to you:  If you are registered to dispense controlled substances, 2 hours in Misuse and Abuse of Controlled Substances, Prescribing of Opioids, or Addiction.”

SBIRT CME Requirement

“The following Continuing Education courses must be completed by all licensees one time, by your 2025 renewal:  2 hours: Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT).''

Suicide Detection CME Requirement

“Additional requirement, must be completed by all licensees within 2 years of your initial licensure, and once every 4 years thereafter:  2 hours: Suicide Detection, Intervention, and Prevention. “

General CME Requirements for DOs

 1.  Each osteopathic physician applying for renewal of his or her license shall attest to the Board that he or she has attended during the preceding year at least 35 hours of continuing education courses or programs approved by the Board.”

Controlled Substance CME Requirements 

“It must include at least:

  (a) Ten hours of category 1A courses; and

  (b) Two hours that relate to the misuse and abuse of controlled substances, the prescribing of opioids, or addiction.”

Suicide Prevention CME 

“On or after July 1, 2018, each osteopathic physician shall, not later than 2 years after initial licensure and at least once every 4 years thereafter, attest to the Board when applying for renewal of his or her license that he or she has received the instruction on evidence-based suicide prevention and awareness required by NRS 633.471.”
