General CME Requirements

  • “50.0 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 credits
    • Approved by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA);
    • 1 year of participation in an approved graduate medical education program is approved as 50 hours of Category 1 continuing education; and
    • Hours are to be earned within the 24 months immediately preceding the date of expiration, except that a licensee who has earned more than the 50 hours required for license renewal for a 24-month renewal period is allowed to carry over up to 25 hours to the next 24-month renewal period; or
  • 3.0 hours of the 50.0 hours are required to be on the subject of opioids. 0.5 hours of the 3.0 hours are to be on the PDMP (Prescription Drug Monitoring Program).”

DOs in Nebraska must also complete 50 CME credits every two years, including 3 hours in opioid prescribing and 0.5 hours in PDMP education, if they prescribe controlled substances. Acceptable credits include AOA Category 1-A or 1-B and AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.


 

DOs must complete 50 CME credits every two years. If they prescribe controlled substances, 3 hours must be focused on opioid education, including 0.5 hours on PDMP. Physicians can carry forward up to 25 excess hours into the next renewal cycle.
